Broken Leg Theatre

broken leg
Since Broken Leg Theatre was established in 2008 the company has successfully devised and produced three new plays.
Anna Jefferson’s Eyes Down, Pens Ready (2009) was performed at Brighton Festival Fringe 2009, supported by The Nightingale Theatre, Brighton, and at Hackney Empire’s studio theatre in London. My Second Life (2011-12), by Anna Jefferson and Alice Trueman, was supported by and staged at The Nightingale, receiving an Argus Angel Award for Artistic Excellence at Brighton Fringe 2011, and transferring to Greenwich Theatre’s Emerging Artists Festival 2012.
In 2014 Broken Leg Theatre received Arts Council England funding for Anna and Alice to collaborate on the development of their new piece, Three Generations of Women. The intergenerational play was conceived to explore the lives of three women, born in the 20s, 50s and 70s. For the writing process the company gathered stories from women from around the UK, and we were proud to host a reading of the new script to over 200 people in September 2014. With further support from Arts Council England the finished play received its world premiere here at Greenwich Theatre from 1-5 March 2016, before touring to Leeds, Brighton and Salford. Full tour details are available here: www.brokenlegtheatre.com/three-generations/

Anna has been writing and producing her work for theatre since 2004. Before founding Broken Leg Theatre she staged new plays in Leeds and at the Jim Broadbent Theatre and Gainsborough Trinity Arts Centre in Lincolnshire. She is a blogger with a popular, thrice award shortlisted blog- www.youcantakeherhomenow.blogspot.co.uk. Anna has over 10 years arts administration experience and is Deputy Director for New Writing South. Her recent short film script is in production after a successful crowd funding campaign.

Alice Trueman has an MA in Scriptwriting from Goldsmiths University. Her most recent stage play was nominated for the Susan Smith Blackburn Award 2013 and she was selected for a BBC Continuing Drama Workshop earlier this year. Alice has also had work produced at Theatre503 and her short films have screened at BAFTA, Shortcutz London and Cornwall Film Festival. Alice is represented by Independent Talent, and currently works as a freelance script editor and writer. She recently directed one of her short film scripts, Egg, which is currently in post-production.

Written by Anna Jefferson and Alice Trueman, this sharp script had some great lines. The strength of the writers is in their ability to observe and replicate the humour of everyday conversations
