Sacred Bath
Sacred Bath explores body ownership and spirituality in a powerful journey of self-reflection. Conceived in a bathtub during a moment of crisis, this physical theatre piece created by Alice Motta, a Brazilian/ Portuguese performer, and poet, delves into the depths of self-biographical stories, challenging societal norms and invites audiences to reevaluate the ownership and safety of their own bodies. In a tapestry of poetry, movement, storytelling, and humour, this bilingual piece presented in Portuguese and English explores objectification by different circles of society and issues around trust, navigating the complex nature of sexuality, influenced by Culture and Religion.
Alice Motta exposes the blurred lines of consent while shedding light on the enduring medieval restraints that still shape our lives and the seeds of guilt and shame planted in our bodies since childhood. The performance serves as a ritualistic quest for spirituality, pushing societal boundaries and inviting viewers to embrace vulnerability and share a moment of connection, creating safety as a collective.
