The 2percent: Live
If you remember with happy nostalgia, the Two-Tone era of the early-eighties, or perhaps the Ska and Bluebeat vibes, imported from Jamaica and blasted out from the record shops of Deptford High Street in the late sixties, then you are going to love the sounds of The 2percent.
More than just a toy, – that’s the title of a song which, in 2016, helped articulate the growing dissent against the unpopular absent owner of Charlton Athletic Football Club. Written by John Barnes, the song drew significant media attention, and within a week it had received airtime on internet radio and BBC Radio London. The overwhelmingly positive response prompted the formation of a new band – The 2percent, who took their name from a quote by a CAFC director who’d claimed it was just two per cent of Charlton fans who objected to the club’s ownership. The band would go on to develop their energetic Reggae/Ska sound, playing local pubs whilst fundraising for community charities.
Band members:
Dan Williams – Drums
Dave Shalloe – Bass guitar
John Barnes – Rhythm guitar
Dan Pittman – Lead guitar
