The Room Upstairs

Invisible illnesses. Puppets. A self-deprecating actor. Biscuits. All this can be found in the room upstairs, but can you handle the journey up?

Both Lani and her mother have important plans on the 19th July; will the conflicting events result in a much-needed breakthrough or a medical cliffhanger? Based on the true story of Lani’s upbringing as a young carer, Baloney’s new show is genre-defying, featuring immersive audio, original compositions and one frustrated daughter. Laughter isn’t just the best medicine, but often the only one that’s available. This atmospheric show explores ME, an ‘invisible illness’, through the lens of a mother/ daughter relationship. Based on true events, this play portrays how this condition gradually penetrates every element of one’s life. Actor and writer Lani Calvert is a repeat offender in the Fringe favourites sketch show NewsRevue and her work uses comedy to explore socio-political issues.
