Spring Awakening, by Duncan Sheik (music) and Steven Sater (book/lyrics), is a Tony Award-winning rock musical based on Frank Wedekind's controversial 1891 play, blending a contemporary alt-rock score with a period setting to explore adolescent angst, sexuality, and societal repression through teenage characters discovering love, rebellion, and devastating consequences in a censorious world. It's known for its powerful music, poignant storytelling, and handling of mature themes like abuse, abortion, and suicide, making it a landmark musical that fuses past and present in a timeless coming-of-age story.
This production is produced and performed by Rose Bruford College students and staff.
