The Seafarer

Following on from a sold out run at Putney Arts Theatre, director Ian Higham is thrilled to bring this production to Greenwich.
“Conor McPherson [award-winning author of The Weir and Girl from the North Country] is Ireland’s greatest contemporary dramatist; a unique and extraordinary storyteller. This exceptionally talented cast brings the characters viscerally to life, resulting in a truly unforgettable theatrical experience.”

It's Christmas Eve and Sharky has returned to Dublin to look after his blind brother, Richard. As the two men rattle around their old house, they are joined by local layabouts Ivan and Nicky – and a stranger, new to town, the mysterious Mr Lockhart. Over a night fuelled by alcohol and resentment, a game of cards is on the table.
But the cost of losing may be higher than anyone imagines…
A blackly funny, haunting tale of family and friendship, steeped in whiskey and stirred by regret, from Ireland’s greatest storyteller.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ “An excellent cast does justice to McPherson’s script...the dialogue flows as smoothly as the whiskey, full of Irishisms and rhythm.”
Everything Theatre
⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Beautifully observed and nuanced… The cast is of a uniformly high quality... Not a glance, a sigh, an exclamation or intonation of voice is wasted…"
Mark Aspen
⭐⭐⭐⭐ "The Seafarer is a darkly funny, yet disturbing and haunting tale of family and friendship, loyalty and regret, the need for love, redemption and the importance of the “second chance”."
Mark Aspen
“A powerful, darkly funny evening of proper Irish storytelling… it’s raw, honest and packed with the kind of dialogue and warmth that feels instantly familiar to anyone from home… well worth seeing.”
London Irish
⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Ian Higham’s direction is crisp and taut, with the dialogue crackling along… “
